John is an adjunct lecturer at Mercer University, where he teaches Masters level students in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, while also supervising students engaged in counseling internship and practicum. Utilizing an eclectic approach, John engages Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Adlerian theoretical models of counseling, along with inner healing prayer and pastoral counseling.
John is a Navy veteran selected for the United States Navy Honor Guard, in Washington DC. after boot camp. He completed Basic Under Water SEAL (BUDS) training, and was stationed at Seal Team Two, in Little Creek Virginia. Prior to 9/11, John decided to transition from active-duty military, to civilian life and pursue an education.
After almost four years of theological studies, along with hospital chaplaincy through the university, he obtained his Masters of Divinity degree (M.Div.), with a concentration in counseling from McAfee School of Theology. After several years of working with teenagers and veterans returning from combat, John again felt led to enhance his counseling skills by pursuing his PhD. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Mercer.
John continues to live in Covington, GA with his wife Trina and two kids, Alex his daughter and Rowan his son.
